This is an online exhibition with an in person show to take place next year that pushes back against the current administration’s troubling drive to whitewash and erase parts of our nation’s history.
It invites artists to revisit and reinterpret those threatened images, keeping their stories alive and visible when they’re most in danger of being erased.

Submission Info

This is not a juried competition, all are invited to take part (although we reserve the right to weed out the inevitable trolls).

To participate, please select one or more works from the Library of Congress repository (examples and links here) and reinterpret it in your own medium – drawing, painting, or any other medium of your choosing.

Send a digital copy of your artwork (tips for photographing your artwork here) along with the source image (or an LoC link to it) to redactedshow2026@gmail.com for inclusion on the website, and if you’re posting it to social media as well please tag @redactedshow on Instagram and Threads and @redactedshow.org on Bluesky.

Because number of participants is still unknown, we’re asking that physical submissions be kept under 10”x10” framed. The exhibition is planned for late Spring or early Summer 2026, to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the country. More details coming soon.
